Junior Achievement of San Diego is an educational nonprofit on a mission to prepare and inspire young people to succeed in a global economy. Through hands-on, real-world learning, JA equips students from kindergarten through young adulthood with the skills, knowledge, and connections they need to build a strong financial future.
Their programs are built on three pillars of success:
These lessons come to life in programs like JA BizTown, where elementary students run a mini-city, and JA Finance Park, where middle and high school students budget a full month of adult expenses in a hands-on simulation. Older students launch real business ventures, learn the fundamentals of investing, and gain professional mentorship through programs like JA Fellows.
The need is real, and it is local. About 15 percent of high school students in San Diego County do not graduate, and only half of those who do are considered college-ready. At the same time, San Diego's fastest-growing industries need more skilled workers than our schools are currently producing.
Junior Achievement is closing that gap, and the results speak for themselves:
The long-term outcomes are just as powerful. Among JA alumni, 91 percent say JA motivated them to learn, 84 percent say it positively influenced their decision to pursue higher education, and 69 percent say they are working in their dream career, compared to just 25 percent of the general public.
